How to play — controls

What you’re getting into

Pokemon 2D Arena on this site means Omniscye’s Empress: Pokémon 2D Arena — a real-time 2D fight where you move, dodge, and fire attacks yourself instead of picking from a turn menu.

Press Play on poke2darena.com to open /play/. The game runs on this site, not in an iframe. The battle canvas is 1200×760. The homepage does not load the game runtime.

Private matches

Both players open https://poke2darena.com/play/. The host creates a private room and copies the EMPRESS1 invite code. The guest pastes that code, not the homepage URL. The host tab calculates the match, so it must stay open and in the foreground.

Browser quick start

1. Open poke2darena.com and press Play. The game opens at /play/.

2. On the title screen, press A, click, or Enter.

3. Build a team from the catalog. In 1.0.0 the right-hand catalog scrolls separately from your selected slots, so browsing is easier while you fill the team.

4. Jump into Story, Quick Battle, or Private Battle from the game menus.

Desktop keyboard (hosted UI hint)

Default battle controls players commonly use on the hosted build: WASD to move and face, 1–4 for your four attacks, Space to dodge, Q/E to switch Pokémon.

Omniscye recommends a controller for the best desktop experience; keyboard works too. Customize binds in Settings or the battle menu. Changes save automatically; conflicting keys swap; Reset Defaults restores stock bindings.

Controllers

Connect the pad before you launch when you can. Creator comments note Xbox often works by default; PlayStation pads often need something like DS4Windows. If the game shows a connection but inputs do nothing, re-check Settings keybinds and that the pad was connected before start.

Android touch (1.0.0)

Official builds target Android 8.0+ in fullscreen landscape with a movement joystick, four attack buttons, dodge, and switch controls.

In 1.0.0 open Settings → Customize Touch Controls to move and resize the joystick, Dodge, attack buttons, and switching controls; adjust opacity; start from a phone or tablet preset; then Save Layout (or cancel / reset). Layouts persist between sessions and stay on-screen after resize.

Aiming tip

Face your target before you fire. Aiming is part of the skill — there is no auto-lock described on the creator page. Player feedback on itch often asks for mouse aim; that is a request, not a shipped feature as of 1.0.0.

Downloads (not on this site)

Windows and Android packages live on Omniscye’s itch.io page. Windows: extract the full ZIP, keep files together, run Empress-Pokemon-2D.exe. Android: install the APK and let first-launch asset prep finish. Linux is untested by the author; Mac is not planned. poke2darena.com does not rehost binaries.
